For the men’s side, after putting up 19 over par in round three they finished with 47 over par through three rounds. This placed them at seventh out of the ten teams competing. They were one of the first teams to start the tournament on day two, with the first tee-off starting at 9 a.m EST.
The team had to compete on Arkansas’ home course, where they took advantage, winning the tournament with nine under par. The key performer for Arkansas was senior John Daly II. Daly is the son of golf legend John Daly, and Daly II followed right in his fathers steps shooting two under par being the number one player overall in the tournament.
The best performer for the Cougars was freshman Dylan Boenning who had a respectable showing, putting up six shots over par through 54 holes. A highlight for Boenning’s tournament was when he hit back-to-back birdies in the first round on holes five and six.
Sophomore Dylan Burcham was the second best Cougar finishing with 14 over par and being 29th in the player pool. Burcham showed his strength when he got a birdie on hole number two in round two. The 634 yard hole was the longest hole of the tournament and Burcham found a way to score in four shots.
Junior Ben Borgida finished with 15 over par putting him at 33rd in the player pool. In round three he started his day a little rocky, hitting a bogey and then a birdie. The next hole he hit another bogey, but made up for it two holes later with another birdie on 14 which is a 492 yard par four.
Junior Ben Mulder finished with 17 over par putting him at 37th in the player pool. Mulder had a good second round only hitting three over par, but three double-bogeys sent his third round downward finishing with nine over on the round.
Senior Sam Renner finished with 19 over par which put him at 43rd in the player pool. Renner found himself struggling each day in Fayateville, with his best score in a round being four over par in round one. An eight over and seven over round two and three score sent him to having one of the worst tournaments in his collegiate career.
The Cougars as a team showed great precision on par threes, finishing the tournament with the second best scores on par threes at a score of 3.10. Although they were strong with the par threes, they also finished second in the tournament for most bogeys hit with 70 total bogeys through the three rounds.
The Cougars will be looking to bounce back in their next tournament on Oct. 20. traveling to Monterey, California for the Saint Mary’s Invitational.
