Per the WSU Athletics website, WSU Interim Athletics Director Jon Haarlow announced on Wednesday that women’s volleyball head coach Korey Schroeder signed a four-year contract extension. This will keep Schroeder in Pullman through the 2029 season.
This comes after Schroeder just led the team to a 17-11 record (11-7 in conference) in his second season as head coach. In his first season at the helm, the Cougars went 16-12 (11-7 in conference) and qualified for the NIVC Tournament.
“In his two seasons serving as head coach, Korey has established himself as one of the top young volleyball coaches on the West Coast,” Haarlow said in a statement posted on the WSU Athletics website. “His ability to recruit and develop top talent is evident and will be a huge asset as we embark on the new Pac-12 next season. We are fortunate to have Korey leading Cougar Volleyball for many years to come.”
Schroeder started his coaching tenure at Wazzu in 2023. He was an assistant coach to head coach Jen Greeny. After Greeny left to become the head coach at West Virginia University in December 2023, Schroeder took over the position. He has remained there since then.
Schroeder was grateful to receive the contract extension and remain the head coach of the volleyball program.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue being a part of such a storied volleyball program,” Schroeder said, per the statement released on the WSU Athletics website. “I’m thankful for President Cantwell, Interim Athletic Director Jon Haarlow and Senior Women’s Administrator Kelli Kamimura who believe in our staff’s process, and have made it clear they want to see volleyball continue to succeed at WSU.”
Schroeder was the only member of the coaching staff who remained at Wazzu after the 2023 season. As a result, that offseason, he had to build a whole new coaching staff. He also needed to recruit many new players since the team only had five returning players for the 2024 season.
Going into the 2025 season, Schroeder maintained his entire coaching staff. However, he had to recruit new talent again since the team only had six returning players.
Nonetheless, in both seasons, Schroeder has coached the team to winning seasons. He has also helped develop some younger players, such as outside hitter Eliana Ti’a, setter Livia Ward and libero Maddy Joswick. Ti’a was named to the WCC All-Conference freshman team this year.
Schroeder and his coaching staff have also recruited well over the past couple of offseasons, bringing in players such as sophomore libero Tinons Munar Galmés and redshirt sophomore outside hitter Mary Healy. Munar Galmés was a WCC All-Conference honorable mention this past season.
He has also helped coach middle blocker Lucie Blažková into the WCC All-Conference First Team-caliber player she is today. Blažková has been on the Cougars since 2023; however, she did not record any personal accolades until 2024 and 2025 — Schroeder’s first two seasons as head coach.
