On Wednesday, WSU Volleyball announced they signed libero and defensive specialist Chloe Heimlicher. Heimlicher will be a true senior when she steps on the court in Bohler after playing three years at Idaho State.
This signing comes after the Cougs lost Kylie Wong due to graduation and Jackie Carle to the transfer portal. Heimlicher joins Tinons Munar Galmés and Maddy Joswick as liberos for WSU this fall.
In her three years at Idaho State combined, Heimlicher recorded 267 digs, 48 assists and 27 service aces. She played a total of 63 matches (out of 90) and 198 sets, meaning she has veteran-caliber experience.
She has also improved and received more playing time over the years. In her freshman and sophomore seasons combined, she had 96 total digs; however, she had 171 digs as a junior. She also had just 11 aces total in her first two seasons, but had 16 last season. She also played in 32 matches her first two years combined, while playing in all 31 matches this past season.
Heimlicher also has playoff experience. In 2024, the Bengals qualified for the NIVC.
The Bengals participate in the Big Sky Volleyball Championship every year. In Heimlicher’s freshman season, they were one-and-done. However, in her sophomore year, they won a game in the tournament as the No. 2 seed against Northern Arizona. This past season, they made a run to the finals as the No. 8 seed, upsetting both No. 4-seeded Weber State and No. 1-seeded Northern Arizona to get there.
Heimlicher’s senior-level experience and leadership will be critical for the Cougars this season. Other than Naomi White, the new middle blocker the Cougs just signed, Heimlicher is set to be the only other true senior on the Cougars for the 2026 season.
“She brings a strong work ethic, competitive mindset and experience that will elevate our gym right away. Chloe contributed at a high level at Idaho State while making significant improvements in her game each season. Adding a player with her experience and commitment is invaluable,” head coach Korey Schroeder said about Heimlicher in a statement posted on the WSU Athletics website.
