Love is in the air and adoptable friends from the Whitman County Humane Society have come to steal hearts for two days of Valentine’s Day related fun.
From 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, WCHS is partnering with Pups and Cups for a Doggy Speed Dating event. From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, WCHS is hosting a fur-baby kissing booth and playing matchmaker for animals and potential owners.
The Doggy Speed Dating will feature three adoptable pups folks can interact with for about a minute each. If you think you have found your slobbery soulmate, you can head to their location on Old Moscow Road on Saturday to adopt them.
Valentine’s Day at WCHS will feature a cat and dog kissing booth, where $10 can buy snuggles and smooches from willing furry friends and treats to give the four-legged kissers as well.
Saturday will also include a raffle, treats for both people and pets and a matchmaking service for adoptables and potential adoptees.
“We are making personalized matchmaking quizzes, and then we’re going to match you with one of our pets, and then if you choose to adopt that pet, then you would get 14% off their adoption fee,” said Zoie Petersen, a shelter advocate and recent WSU graduate.
As for pets at the event Saturday, Petersen said there are eight dogs and around twelve cats available for adoption.
“We love our pets, and our community does too, and it’s a great time to partner and kind of show some love for our pets and our community,” said Amy Griffith, the president of the WCHS board.
Petersen had a similar sentiment.
“I think it’s a great time to just give love to those who don’t have a home, per se, and give them as much love as they can get,” Petersen said.
Giving love to shelter animals is always great, but bringing one home is a big commitment. Griffith invited caution towards customers who might want to surprise their partner with a new pet.
“They are living, breathing beings, and it’s really important that people think about all the things that go into owning a pet,” Griffith said.
