WSU women’s basketball heads into their last game of the conference season against Saint Mary’s College of California at 12 p.m this Saturday Feb. 28 in Beasley Coliseum. They will honor two of their seniors during the game.
Seniors for the Cougs are guard Jean Chiu who came to WSU her junior year after two years at the University of Taipei. According to WSU Athletics Chiu also played on the Chinese Taipei National team for both the U16 and U18.
Forward Lauren Glazier started her college career with the Cougs as a freshman. After Glazier transferred to play for University of Pacific where she played for both her sophomore and junior year. Before coming back to WSU to finish off as a Coug one last time.
This game will mark the Cougs final home game before they travel down to Las Vegas for the West Coast Conference tournament. The Cougs are currently still ranked No. 10 in the conference with a record of 5-12 and overall record of 6-24.
The Cougs returned home to Beasley last night after being on the road for their last two games. The Cougs brought the heat in an amazing play against Seattle University 69-55 where the Cougs out rebounded the Red Hawks and dominated in both the paint and on the floor.
The last time the Cougs faced off with Saint Mary’s was in Moraga, California. Both teams went back and forth on who had the lead. In overtime the Cougs clinched the win by four points ending the game 68-64.
Saint Mary’s College of California is currently ranked No. 8 in the WCC with a conference record of 6-11 and an overall record of 15-15.
This game will also mark the last season game for Saint Mary’s and be their second game on the road as they were previously up in Spokane last night facing off against Gonzaga University losing by 8 points final score being 75-67.
Some notable players for Saint Mary’s is Abigail Shoff a junior guard, with a total of 291 points for the season averaging 9.7 points a game and 3.9 rebounds. Another is Edie Clarke, a sophomore power forward, who averages 7.4 points a game and with a total of 142 rebounds and averages 4.7 rebounds a game.
