After the win against Saint Mary’s College of California Washington State University secured the No. 9 seed in the West Coast Conference tournament. The Cougs will take on seed No. 12 Seattle University at 12 p.m March 5 in Las Vegas at Orleans Arena.
This will mark the third meetup between the Cougs and Redhawks this season. Not too recently the Cougs hosted the Redhawks last week in Beasley Coliseum where the Cougs brought the energy and dominated the boards both on offense and defense defeating the Redhawks 69-55. Over the last decade that WSU has played against Seattle, the Cougs have yet to be beaten by the Redhawks.
The Cougs recently just played against Saint Mary’s College of California where the Cougs brought the energy going back and forth with the Gaels on who took the lead. The Cougs took control in the last half of the final quarter winning by 7 points ending the game 57-50 which secured them the No. 9 seed in the WCC.
According to WSU athletics, Eleonora Villa was named to the All-WCC Team. Villa also made 1,414 career points after the Cougs game against the Gaels. She is sitting at No. 11 in the program’s history and is only 71 points away from snatching No. 10 overall.
Seattle University recently played Pepperdine where they came up short losing the match 81-67. The Redhawks are currently sitting at No. 12 in the WCC with a conference record of 1-17 and a 5-24 overall record.
According to Seattle University athletics, guard Ella Brubaker was put on the honorable mention team for the WCC. Brubaker averages 16 points per game with an average of 4.3 rebounds a game.
If the Cougs win this match against the Redhawks the Cougs will advance to the next round of the tournament. They will then go on to play against No. 8 seed University of Pacific the following day at 12 p.m March 6 in Las Vegas.
