Tomas Thrastarson came to WSU in 2024 from Iceland and became the team’s top freshman, earning a temporary starting spot when Isaiah Watts was injured.
Before Wazzu, Thrastarson played for Iceland’s U20 squad and was also a member of the Thor Thorlakshofn U18 and U20 teams.
In his freshman year at WSU, Thrastarson saw his minutes increase in each game, ultimately becoming the first man off the bench, and starting 11 games when Watts went down with an injury in early January.
Thrastarson played in 31 games, averaging 20.7 minutes. He finished the year with an average line of 4.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists, while also accumulating 19 blocks (0.6 per game).
Thrastarson’s solid play as a freshman could indicate more playing time and a possible starting role in the 2025-26 season.
