On Friday, Washington State freshman guard Ace Glass announced that he would be entering the NCAA transfer portal. This news was not a shock to the WSU fan base, and encapsulates what has become the new norm for WSU athletics.
The California native had initially committed to Texas Tech, but a coaching change gave WSU the opportunity to go out and bring him to Pullman. The freshman did not disappoint in his lone season at WSU.
Glass became a star after a scoring explosion at the Maui Invitational in November, where he broke the WSU freshman single-game scoring record with a 40-point performance against Arizona State.Â
Glass averaged 16.4 points, three rebounds and 2.3 assists this season, leading the Cougars in scoring.
His performance had him named to the All-West Coast Conference Freshman Team and the All-WCC Second Team. Glass was also awarded WCC freshman of the week three times.Â
Before the season, Glass said he chose WSU because he thought the coaching staff knew his game and would be able to develop him. He was right, as his performance this season has garnered attention nationwide.
As for WSU, Glass is the eighth Cougar to enter the transfer portal, along with two players graduating. Glass shattered the expectations of his freshman year, and is expected to draw interest from many programs.
