The WSU women’s basketball team is back at home to face the University of California, Berkeley Golden Bears at 7 p.m. Friday in Pullman.

WSU (9-11, 2-6) looks to end its four-game losing streak this weekend, after a road stint against the Los Angeles schools. Meanwhile, the Golden Bears (8-11, 0-8) are searching for their first conference win of the season.

The Cougars have played five of their eight conference games on the road. In a press conference with WSU athletics, head coach Kamie Ethridge said the team is excited to return home.

“Through the grind of the Pac-12 conference season, you need a little bit of home cookin’, and you need to get back into your old routine,” Ethridge said.

The Cougars defeated the Golden Bears this season 96-75 in Berkley beating Cal for the first time since Jan. 29, 2017. Redshirt senior forward Borislava Hristova and senior guard Chanelle Molina combined for 54 points. Molina set her season high in that game scoring 28 points.

“After that game,” Ethridge said, “coach Charmin [Smith] sent me a message saying if Chanelle Molina can shoot like that we can compete with anybody.”

In the game against UCLA, Molina made four points on two of 16 shooting. She made 11 points against the University of Southern California and nine points against Arizona State University. Hristova scored 10 points against USC and 14 points against UCLA.

“You can’t expect to play at that level,” Ethridge said. “You can’t expect those two players to carry you like that. But what I liked is that everybody showed up ready to play that day [against Cal]. It was a really big step for us after struggling at home against UW.”

In the Cal game on Jan. 5, WSU had nine players score points with four scoring in double digits.

The Cougars play the University of California, Berkeley Golden Bears 7 p.m. Friday at Beasley Coliseum.
