Fraternity Gamma Iota Omicron has been shut down until January 2026 for hazing incidents last spring semester.
According to the WSU Sam’s Law website, the fraternity made new members carry around items. If they failed to keep the items, they would lose “points.” New members were also blindfolded, moved to various locations and yelled at.
In addition to the suspension, the chapter will be on disciplinary probation until May 2026. Also, members will have to complete hazing classes and meet with the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life four times before the suspension has ended.
The fraternity has been under investigation for the last two months.
The last Greek chapter to lose recognition was Alpha Sigma Phi, which was shut down until 2030 because of several hazing and reckless endangerment incidents over two years.
WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell will be meeting with the Greek houses early in the fall semester. President Cantwell said previously that she wants to meet with the leaders of every house twice a year.
“I would expect to be meeting with Greek life early, and I’m not talking about the administrative side, I am talking about the student leadership side,” Cantwell said.
