Arizona Pac-12 Preview

From staff reports

The University of Arizona’s baseball team has gotten off to a strong start in non-conference play as the Wildcats are primed to improve on their disappointing 2013-14 season.

Arizona comes into conference play with a record of 15-4 and are currently ranked 27th in the country by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. They have already faced off against some of the top competition in the country.

The Wildcats have had series with two teams currently ranked in the top 25 of the NCBWA, as they hosted No. 10 Rice for three games and traveled to Starkville Mississippi to play Mississippi State for two games. Arizona was 1-4 in those games but haven’t lost to another team

Last year Arizona finished with a record of 22-33 overall and 9-21 in Pac-12 play. They finished 10th in the conference, better than only Utah who happens to be the first team they face in conference play.

On offense the Wildcats are led by Scott Kingery and Kevin Newman. Kingery has registered a .458/.614/.500 slash line so far while Newman is close behind as he has hit .443 and slugged .557.

On the mound Arizona has been balanced as all but two pitchers who the wildcats have used have and ERA below 4.00
