USC Pac-12 Preview

WSU+vs.+UCLA

WSU vs. UCLA

After starting the season unranked, the No. 25 USC Trojans have posted a 15-2 record and launched themselves into the rankings.

Last weekend, the Trojans silenced those who criticized their strength of schedule by knocking off No. 6 TCU, No. 1 Vanderbilt and No. 4 UCLA.

The Trojans beat the horned frogs in the bottom of the 12th inning at Dedeaux Field as junior infielder Blake Lacey executed a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in junior outfielder Timmy Robinson to give USC a 7-6 win. Junior Brent Wheatley threw a strong 6.1 innings against TCU to get the win.

The next day, USC hosted No. 1 Vanderbilt and won 6-5 in walk-off fashion yet again. Freshman pinch hitter Adalberto Carrillo hit the game-winning home run for the Trojans. Junior lefty Kyle Twomey threw five innings and earned the win, improving to 3-0 on the season.

To cap off the weekend, freshman Mitch Hart took the mound for the Trojans and improved to 3-0 on the season, beating UCLA 8-4. During the game, junior AJ Ramirez hit his third home run of the season.

To complement the Trojans’ dominant pitching, senior catcher Garrett Stubbs has hit .443 on the season. Senior infielder Dante Flores and redshirt junior outfielder Bobby Stahel are hitting .352 and .351, respectively. Junior David Oppenheim is hitting .324, followed by junior Blake Lacey, hitting .323.
