The Palouse Choral Societyā€™s concert ā€œA Tale of Two Citiesā€ will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday in Moscowā€™s First Presbyterian Church.

From staff reports

The sounds of Paris and London will meet in Pullman and Moscow in the upcoming choral performance of “A Tale of Two Cities.”

The Palouse Choral Society’s Chamber Choir will perform music from London and ParisĀ at 4 p.m. Sunday in Moscow’s First Presbyterian Church.

“The Chamber Choir is a small, highly-dedicated group of singers chosen from the larger ensemble who supplement PCS concerts with additional and often more challenging repertoire,” Executive Director Janice O’Toole said. “The Chamber Choir requires an annual audition that is slightly more involved than the full choir audition. Anyone who is a member of the full choir is invited to audition for the Chamber Choir.”

The 20-voice Chamber Choir has rehearsed for this performance one hour per week since January, artistic and music director Michael Murphy said.

“The inspiration for this concert comes from one of my favorite novels, ‘A Tale of Two Cities,’ by Charles Dickens,” Murphy said. “The musical works featured in our concert are creations from composers who were in and around the London and Paris area different time periods within their careers.”Ā

The evening will include William Byrd’s “Mass for Four Voices,” Gabriel FaurĆ©’s “Pavane,” and other selections by British and French composers.

“Sunday’s performance will feature beautiful and compelling works that are masterworks in the choral canon. Many of these works … are seldom performed, particularly in the Inland Northwest,” Murphy said, “Many of the members of the Chamber Choir will be singing solos within the concert.”Ā Ā

General admission tickets cost $15, students with ID can get tickets for $8, and children 12 and younger get in for free.Ā Tickets may be purchased at the door or online atĀ www.palousechoralsociety.org/.Ā
