Sketching on the menu for lunch

From staff reports

Pull out those sketchbooks, because starting today the Student Entertainment Board (SEB) resumes its Sketch Wednesdays events.

“Sketch Wednesdays are an event series we started last year,” said Angel Nava, the SEB gallery committee adviser. “It’s a way to get students to engage the arts.”

SEB invites students and local artists to come in and work on pieces during the event. Students can talk to the artists, buy pieces and view the SEB Gallery.

“We’ve had artists sew little monster stuffed animals, make chocolates and sketch,” Nava said. “What’s cool about this Sketch Wednesday is it’s connected with a sketch exhibit.”

The artists will have their sketchbooks open for visitors to look through, and they will do portraits or special works for the audience, Nava said.

“Sketch Wednesdays lean toward the feel of an opening reception, but blends with the gallery style,” she said.

This semester, Sketch Wednesdays will take place today, March 25 and April 15 from noon to 2 p.m. To sign up as an artist, fill out an online CougSync form or email the gallery at [email protected].
