A flautist tour de force

From staff reports

Baroque, beat boxing and beautiful Irish melodies will come together in-concert when senior Danielle Knight performs a flute recital. The performance will take place at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in Kimbrough 101.

As a student seeking a bachelor’s in music and in English, a recital is not required like it is for the music performance and education majors, Knight said.

“I’m doing it just for fun. I love my flute and enjoy performing, so why not,” Knight said.

Knight will perform the third movement of Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G Major, the second and third movements of Bach’s Flute Sonata in E Flat Major, her own transcription of Project Trio’s “Fleur d’ennoi and dolce ambiance,” and Hamilton Harty’s “In Ireland.”

Graduate student Steven Damouni will accompany her on piano in Flute Concerto in G Major, Flute Sonata in E Flat Major, and “In Ireland.”

“In Ireland” is full of beautiful Irish melodies and Knight was inspired to include it in her recital by her love of Irish music.

She transcribed “Fleur d’ennui and douce ambiance,” originally written for flute and cello, for three flutes. Graduate students Megan Anderson and Zachery Meier will be featured alongside Knight in the performance.

Greg Patillo, a member of Project Trio, is most known for beat boxing flute, Knight said.

“I’m not very good at all the beat boxing, so I chose a part without as much of it. It was very fun nevertheless,” Knight said.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
