A season of theatre awaits. Between Pullman and Moscow, a host of community and university theatres plan for their upcoming productions this spring.

The lineup for local theaters includes flying nannies, man-eating plants, a Valentine’s Christmas and a play within a play.

Starting locally, next month is Pullman Civic Theatre’s production of “The Twelve Dates of Christmas,” described on Pullman Civic’s website as the cure to post-Christmas blues. Following that will be “Becky’s New Car” by Steven Dictz, telling the story of a woman given the chance to run away from her own life.

The Regional Theatre of the Palouse (RTOP) finished off its fall season with the inclusion of its sold-out show “The Music Man.” Last December, auditions were held for the theatre’s two upcoming spring shows. “Little Shop of Horrors” will run Feb. 19-28 at RTOP, followed by “Mary Poppins” April 16-25.

Also in Pullman, WSU Performing Arts includes musical and theatrical performances such as “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” in April and the string band Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem, Feb. 6. A Literature to Life stage production of Khaled Hosseini’s novel, “The Kite Runner,” will hit the Jones Theatre Stage March 11.

Next week, the Moscow Art Theatre (Too) and a performance of “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” will appear at the Midwinter Night’s Gala at Daggy Hall.

Across the state boarder in Idaho, the Moscow Community Theatre is preparing its spring show “Play On!,” described by show producer and vice president for the board of directors Jonathan Biles as a play within a play, with a community theater trying to put on a show.

“Everything that can go wrong does go wrong,” Biles said. “It’s definitely a comedy.”

Opening night for “Play On!” is April 17, showing for three weekends in Moscow and Pullman. “Little Shop of Horrors” at RTOP and “The Twelve Dates of Christmas” from Pullman Civic will have their opening nights Feb. 19 and 13 respectively.
