Poetry slam starts up its competition

The Student Entertainment Board will present their annual Poetry Slam tonight at 7 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium.

The Poetry Slam is a competition consisting of three rounds with student participants. Each participant is given one minute to recite each poem. The judges will advance five poets to the second round. After that, the top three will advance to the third and final round.

“The top three will be the winners of the SEB Poetry Slam,” said Liz Lin, SEB special events coordinator. “However, we will still be taking the top four to the regional poetry slam.”

Miles Hodges, a rising spoken-word artist hailing from New York City, will host the event. Hodges, who has been featured on HBO and worked with artists Joshua Bennett and Alysia Harris, will feature some of his own work as well.

The show is free and open to the public.
