Winning over hearts in Beasley

Heart will take the stage at Beasley Coliseum tonight for Dad’s Weekend.

The band was formed by two sisters, Ann and Nancy Wilson, and has been making music for 35 years, said Beasley Coliseum director Leo Udy.

“They got their start in Seattle…and had some number one singles back in the 80s and 90s,” Udy said.

Beasley Coliseum conducted a survey through its emailing list last spring to choose entertainment for Dad’s Weekend. Udy said the emailing list provides a good idea of parents’ and students’ musical tastes.

Other factors influenced the decision to bring Heart to WSU.

“Heart was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which was a big deal, so they’re very popular,” Udy said. “And they’re a Washington band.”

Udy said about 3,000 tickets had been sold as of Monday, with approximately 2,000 remaining.

“People that bought tickets are very excited for them to be here,” Udy said. “I think being on a Friday night of Dad’s Weekend has hurt us a little because we can’t do shows on Saturday nights of Dad’s Weekend anymore… It’s hurt our attendance a little bit because a lot of people aren’t in town yet.”

Although the band spends a lot of time in the Seattle area, Udy said he thinks they’re excited to return to eastern Washington.

“We are looking forward to playing for Dad’s Night at WSU,” said Ann Wilson, according to a spokesperson for the band. “We know people will have a good time listening to the band as it is now!”

The concert will take place at 7:30 tonight in Beasley Coliseum. Tickets cost $59.50, and a $5 discount is available for WSU faculty, staff and students.
