Soccer snags win over the Wildcats

The undefeated record is still intact for the Washington State University women’s soccer team after a win Sunday afternoon against the Weber State Wildcats.

The team improved its record to 4-0-1 after the 1-0 win courtesy of a seventh minute goal from junior midfielder Nicole Setterlund.

Setterlund’s second goal of the season came off a corner kick from senior forward Micaela Castain.

WSU logged their fourth-consecutive shutout, while supplying Weber State with its first loss of the year.

Head Coach Keidane McAlpine attributed the win to increased effort from the team.

“Our intensity and energy was better than our last game,” he said. “The lone disappointment is that we pride ourselves on creating chances and scoring goals. We created chances, but we did not convert enough this weekend.”

WSU outshot the Wildcats 15-2 in the game, and 7-0 in the first half. The Cougars also had a 7-2 advantage for corner kicks.

WSU is undefeated through five games for the third time in school history, according to Washington State University Athletic Communications.

The team is also on a nine game unbeaten streak since last season, and the Cougars have not given up a goal in the last 349 minutes of play.

WSU will host UNLV at the Lower Soccer Field Friday at 2:30 p.m.
