‘Vagina Monologues’ auditions

From staff reports

No sex talk here. Despite its name, “The Vagina Monologues,” the show is not what one would expect.

V-Day WSU will hold auditions for “The Vagina Monologues” this week for its performance of the show in February.

Diana Anucinski, a V-Day graduate assistant working with Violence Prevention Programs, describes the group as part of a global activist movement that works to end violence against women and girls while increasing awareness and raising money for anti-violence organizations.

“The Vagina Monologues” are a collection of monologues created by Eve Ensler, used by V-Day to help raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups in the community.

“This year, Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse has been selected as the beneficiary,” Anucinski said.

Anucinski said all women are welcome to come and no acting experience is required.

While men are not discouraged to help with the production, V-Day Organization’s regulations state they are not able to act. However, Anucinski said they encourage men to take part in production and volunteering.

“We encourage a diverse group of individuals to get involved in helping with V-Day WSU,” Anucinski said.

Auditions will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5 and Friday, Nov. 7 from 6 — 8 p.m. in Cleveland 30W. Callbacks will take place Nov. 12 and 14 from 6 — 8 p.m., and individuals who are called back will be assigned a specific day and asked to stay for the allotted two hours.
