Golf ready to tee it up in California

From staff reports

The Washington State Cougars men’s golf team looks to get their season started on the right foot as they tee it up today and tomorrow in California.

The Southwestern Intercollegiate presented by James Kim in Westlake Village, Calif., features a par-71, 6,964-yard course at the North Ranch Country Club. Cougar golfers will play 36 continuous holes starting at 8 a.m. today. Then they will finish up the last 18 holes of the tournament with another 8 a.m. start tomorrow.

Pepperdine and USC are co-hosting the tournament, and a 12-team field consisting of other Pac-12 schools like Arizona and Stanford will also be competing.

Seniors Sang Lee and Charlie Mroz will look to lead the Cougars in California this week. Juniors Evan Omelia, Bhurinat Songpaiboon and freshman Derek Bayley will also be competing.

Head Coach Garrett Clegg enters his fourth season at the helm for the Cougars. His team is coming off a 2013-14 season where they finished No. 11 at the Pac-12 championships.

After a week off, the team will travel across the state to Bremerton and compete in the Husky Invitational.

Live results from the match will be available at golfstat.com. At the end of each day, results will be posted at wsucougars.com.
