WSU men’s golf takes on Cardinal

From staff reports

The Washington State University men’s golf team hopes to build on its top-10 performances in spring competition as they travel to Stanford, Calif., today to compete in The Goodwin.

The tournament, hosted by Stanford and formerly known as the United States Intercollegiate, was renamed in honor of the former Stanford men’s golf coach, Wally Goodwin.

Along with the Cougars and host Stanford on the 6,727-yard course will be Colorado State, Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, Northwestern, Oregon, San Diego State, San Jose State, Saint Mary’s (Calif.), Texas Christian, Alabama at Birmingham, UC Davis, UCLA, Nevada at Las Vegas, Southern California, South Florida, and Washington.

Representing Washington State will be junior and top performer of last week’s Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational, Charlie Mroz. Joining Mroz will be junior Michael Anderson, senior Jarrett Foote, redshirt junior Sang Lee, and senior Blake Snyder.

“This is a great tournament,” Head Coach Garrett Clegg said in a press release. “Outside of the Pac-12 Championships, it’s probably one of the best tournaments that we play all year. I think our guys are really close to having a breakthrough. I’m hoping that’s this weekend, and we can have a great tournament.”

The event will span three days and will feature 54 holes of stroke play. Groups begin from holes 1 and 10. All players will be re-grouped before each round based on scores. For the purposes of tournament honors and awards, ties will be split per NCAA Championship tie-breaking procedures.
