Letter to the editor: Misleading headline on recent article

ANDREW LUEDEKE | Pullman

I’ve been following the Daily Evergreen ever since I came to Pullman in August of 2016. It has come to my attention that The Daily Evergreen takes part in irresponsible reporting on major levels.

It is almost as if The Daily Evergreen takes pride in stoking racial and political flames on campus, not only with its opinion section (which it has the right to do), but with its supposedly unbiased news section as well.

I would like to note an article that The Daily Evergreen published on January 30, 2017. The article was titled “WSU officials react to Trump’s executive order banning Muslims.” The problem with this title is that the executive did not even mention the word “Muslim.” Not one time. Nor did it describe the Islamic faith in any way.

By using the term “Muslim ban,” The Daily Evergreen is participating in not only spreading lies around campus, but also creating a hostile environment for Muslim students to get an education.

I am calling for this unethical behavior to stop. The Daily Evergreen is disregarding basic and fundamental journalistic principle in what I assume to be an attempt to garner likes, comments and shares.

I would also like to note that I am in no way, shape or form affiliated to a campus political organization. I am just a guy seeking honest reporting.
