Bulk Repackaging Project helps those with food insecurity

From staff reports

The Bulk Repackaging Project needs volunteers to repackage the Moscow Food Co-op Food Bag Bank donations.

WSU students can receive community service hours by donating their time to repackaging food, said Erin McIlraith, WSU Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) marketing and communication coordinator. The food will be sent to the Community Action Center to benefit community members in Pullman and Whitman County.

“People that are facing food insecurity are students, community members, faculty or staff,” McIlraith said. “Anyone can access those services.”

Instead of giving money to this project, all volunteers need to do is give their time to make a difference in another person’s life, she said.

“If you don’t have that extra cash to spare, the service project is a great way to donate some time without having to strap yourself for cash,” McIlraith said, “so that you can make a difference without having to dent your own budget.”

This food repackaging project will take place from 4 – 6 p.m. tonight at the Moscow Food Co-Op.
