With zombie costumes, ghost tours and festivities for children, Creepy Colfax has brought large crowds to their Halloween celebrations for the past few years.

As a part of Colfax’s First Thursday, this October the Creepy Colfax team will collaborate with the Colfax Library to present Zombiefest and Pumpkinfest.

Zombiefest will include zombie-themed crafts, games and “Zombie-licious pizza,” according to the Whitman County Rural Library District website. These activities are tailored toward students in sixth grade and up.  

Those who dress up are able to compete for a prize, and the bragging rights that come with the title “Best Zombie Costume.”

“We wanted to play with the zombie theme as much as we could,” Catalina Flores, circulation and branch coordinator for Colfax Library said.

In past years, participants have enjoyed being able to dress up and create the most realistic zombie costumes and makeup, Flores said.

For a more family-friendly experience, parents can take their younger children to Pumpkinfest. This event will offer pumpkin themed crafts, Halloween games and temporary tattoos.

Pumpkinfest is returning this year after taking a few years off, but the Whitman County Library has always offered events suited for families with younger children, Flores said.

Zombiefest and Pumpkinfest are only the beginning of 2016’s Creepy Colfax. During the month of October, the St. Ignatius Haunted Hospital in Colfax will be offering tours, ghost hunts and overnight stays.

The Whitman County Library strives to be more than just a resource for locals to check out books and use computers.

“I think these events are important to the community,” Flores said. “People can bring friends and unite at the library.”

Pumpkinfest will begin at 3 p.m., and Zombiefest will follow from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Colfax Library. Admission is free and open to the public.
