On Tuesday, Cash Cash will be the second high-profile electronic dance music group to perform in Pullman this semester.

Cash Cash will be live at Phi Tau on Tuesday to perform in the “Up and Up Festival.” Monster Energy Outbreak Presents teamed up with Tilt to bring the electronic- pop dance trio to Pullman.

When Outbreak Presents approached Tilt, Grace Lee, head of partnerships for Tilt, reached out to the campus ambassadors of universities in the Pacific Northwest to get the word out.

“We were lucky to have five really strong Tilt ambassadors on the ground,” Lee said. “They’ve done an excellent job helping to get the word out, and this is an opportunity for Pullman to get a top 40 artist.”

The first university to presale 500 tickets instantly won the competition. Out of the universities that competed, WSU beat the others by a substantial margin, said Austin Whittendale, junior finance major and campus ambassador for Tilt.

As a Tilt campus ambassador, Whittendale’s main job is to promote the app and various “tilts,” or events, on the app, and be the source of local knowledge for Tilt. Whittendale and another ambassador teamed up to promote the contest to win a Cash Cash performance for WSU.

“I honestly didn’t think we would win,” Whittendale said. “It was prideful to be like, ‘Wow, this is happening, we’re in charge of this concert.’”

Tilt is a social media for groups, Lee said. WSU should be proud that they had the most enthusiasm and reacted so quickly to presell the most tickets in the contest to win the performance, she said.

“Monster Energy Outbreak Presents: Up and Up Festival” is the first “fan-sourced” concert, according to a news release on Mitch Schneider Organization’s website.

“Fan-sourcing concerts and tours will be the future,” said Steven Ljubicic, general manager of Monster Energy Outbreak told Pollstar. “Instead of going on traditional tour routes, hoping to sell out, artists can discover pockets of new fans, even in secondary or tertiary tour markets.”

While the fans themselves decided on the winner, the actual details of the event were up to Monster Energy Outbreak Presents. For example, the date of the event was unknown until the venue was contracted, according to Pollstar.

Since Whittendale is a member of Lamba Chi Alpha, he said that he has been successful in getting Greek row to use Tilt more than the campus itself. With his knowledge of Greek row, Monster Energy Outbreak Presents originally decided on Delta Upsilon’s parking lot as a venue.

However, with Delta Upsilon’s recent suspension, the venue has been changed to Phi Kappa Tau’s parking lot. Delta Upsilon was just a venue for the performance to take place and Tilt and Monster Energy Outbreak has no involvement with Delta Upsilon’s suspension, Lee said. It was one of the few places near campus with the capacity for 1,000 attendees.

Cash Cash will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Phi Tau parking lot. For those with tickets, wristbands are available to be picked up from 1 – 4 p.m. in the CUB on Tuesday. Tickets will also be available at this time.
