No matter what the passion, be it fencing or chemistry, there are many ways students at WSU can get involved in the community.

Titled CougSync Connect, the fair features local organizations and student groups found on CougSync.

“At the fair, students will find registered student organizations and community organization with whom they can do service projects,” Center for Civic Engagement Marketing and Communication Coordinator Erin McIlraith said in an email.

Student Involvement oversees all student organizations, including the wide range of clubs offered at WSU. Together, Student Involvement and CCE put on the involvement fair to showcase opportunities students have for extracurricular and community service projects.

McIlraith said the fair is held annually to help raise awareness about the myriad of ways students can get involved, both on campus and in the Palouse community.

The fair also features a service project, inviting students to come out and help. Students do not need to sign up in advance.

According to CCE’s event page, this year the Moscow Recycling Center will host a workshop making reusable, no-sew bags out of recycled t-shirts. These bags will go to the Pullman Community Action Center for food pantry clients.

Even when students have a heavy course load, joining a club or organization can be beneficial. McIlraith said the fair is in place to hopefully help students find places that meet their interests and learn more about the community.

“Both community service and student groups offer students the opportunity to meet others, expand their skills, and become leaders,” McIlraith said in an email. “These projects help students build valuable skills for future employment and for their major.”

McIlraith’s advice for students seeking ways to be involved is to stop by the fair for information or to search for groups and projects that interest them on CougSync.

CougSync Connect will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7 on Library Road outside Bryan Hall.
