Backyard Harvest, a fundraiser that aims to bring healthy and local produce to food banks will host an elegant, five-course meal at the Black Cypress.

The event is a great dining experience from a non-profit organization whose main goal is to provide food for those who need it, said director of operations for Backyard Harvest Chris Cummings.

Backyard Harvest has put on this fundraiser featuring fresh, farm grown ingredients and using donated space and chefs to bring people together through fundraising for six years.

This year will be Backyard Harvest’s first Harvest Dinner in Pullman, and the event has also expanded to Lindsay, ID.

“People should understand that not everyone gets the opportunity to sit down and enjoy fresh food,” board director for Backyard Harvest Robin Ohlgren said.

Backyard Harvest’s goal is to expand access to fresh food to people who need it. Ohlgren explained that everyone can do something, such as volunteering or donating. Everyone needs to find something that works for them individually, she said.

“It’s an incredible program, a quintessential grassroots program, an incredibly simple solution to a growing problem: hunger,” Ohlgren said.

Ohlgren estimates around 50 guests will attend based on her previous experiences in Moscow.

“To sit down and share food with 40 to 50 people is just an incredible experience,” Ohlgren said.

The Backyard Harvest Annual Harvest Dinner will take place at 5 p.m. on Sep. 25 at The Black Cypress. Tickets are $100 per person and include a five-course meal.
