Fading rainBowe
October 17, 2013
Start – Harry Douglas, WR, Falcons
Douglas has been Atlanta’s slot receiver since 2008 and has not lived up to his potential so far in his career. Having said that, with Julio Jones done for the season and Roddy White nursing a high-ankle sprain, it is now or never for Douglas to prove that he is still of value to a Falcons team that will go up against a winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers squad this week.
Sit – Dwayne Bowe, WR, Chiefs
It is crazy to think that just three years ago, Dwayne Bowe was one of the best receivers in the league and had 15 touchdowns to prove it. However, this year Bowe is averaging 3.3 receptions and 38.1 yards per game, measly numbers for Kansas City’s star receiver. To make matters worse, he has only two touchdowns on the year. Until Bowe proves he is back to his 2010 form, the bench is the only place he belongs.
Start – Justin Blackmon, WR, Jaguars
Blackmon is about the only thing going right for the 0-6 Jacksonville Jaguars this season. After completing his four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Blackmon has returned with a vengeance. In the two games Blackmon played in, he hauled in a combined 326 yards and one touchdown. Those numbers do not appear to be a fluke, as Blackmon seems determined to prove doubters wrong and live up to his first-round talent.
Sit – Miles Austin, WR, Cowboys
Apparently, not everything is bigger in Texas, because Austin is projected to finish the season with 333 receiving yards and no touchdowns, stats about as small as the Idaho Vandals’ national championship odds. The emergence of Dez Bryant as one of the league’s best receivers paired with the consistency Jason Witten has provided over his career, there just does not seem to be many opportunities for Austin to succeed moving forward.
Start – Nick Foles, QB, Eagles
So far this season, Foles has emerged as Philadelphia’s best quarterback now and for the future. With a mind-blowing 127.9 passer rating, and a 67.2 percent completion, Foles is giving Head Coach Chip Kelly no reason to take him out of the game. Foles also showed he is not just an accurate passer and a great decision-maker; in last week’s game, he also got the job done on the ground when he scored his first rushing touchdown of the season.
