The WSU Police Department is under formal investigation by the university for allegations of employee misconduct.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the names of those involved have yet to be released, said Phil Weiler, vice president of marketing and communications.

“Employee investigations are typically kept in-house until the investigation is fully concluded,” he said.

Chief of Police Bill Gardner and Assistant Chief Steve Hansen have been temporarily reassigned while the investigation is underway, but they are still employed by the department, according to the Lewiston Tribune.

Administrative Sgt. Dawn Daniels will act as temporary police chief and undertake all of the typical day-to-day operations, according to a WSU Insider press release

“Dawn was the logical choice as replacement,” Weiler said. “Whenever someone is sick or on vacation, she is usually the one who steps in.”

Victoria Murray will taking over as temporary associate vice president for public safety and will oversee the management of all public safety, according to the press release.

Weiler said WSU is nearing the end of the investigation, and its findings will hopefully be released within the next couple of weeks.
