Dear Emma,

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I really want to get into the spirit. What kind of events or activities are available for me around the Palouse?

Sincerely,

Halloweentown

Hi Halloweentown,

Although Pullman seems like a small town, there are various different things to do to get into the holiday spirit.

The first thing I would recommend is attending the Haunted Palouse which is an event that runs October 21, 22, 28 and 29th. Tickets are $35 (cash only) and will get you into three attractions two spooky haunted houses, a zombie hunt and lastly fortune telling. Haunted Palouse is located in Palouse, WA, and directions can be found on their website

Next, on October 29th, downtown Pullman will be hosting the Harvest Festival with various vendors and activities. From 3-6 p.m. there will be a costume contest and selfie spots, from 6-10 p.m. there will be a zombie pub crawl and from 9 p.m.-12 a.m. the Lumberyard will be hosting their Bump in the Night event.

Another fun idea would be to go to a pumpkin patch, such as Marketta Ridge Farm or Wilson Banner Ranch and pick pumpkins to paint or carve with your friends. To spice up your carving experience you could make apple cider cocktails

The recipe for the cocktails calls for 3 ounces of spiced rum, 3 ounces of apple cider, 4 ounces of ginger ale, crushed ice and apple slices for garnish. If you want to make this into a mocktail, cut the alcohol out and you have a delicious fall treat. Fall and spooky season definitely calls for treats and baked goods. Personally, my favorite treat to make are Halloween inspired monster cookies. You can add Halloween colored M&Ms, as well as candy eyeballs to make the cookies look more festive. Another tasty Halloween favorite is monster munch, which is filled with goodies like candy corn, popcorn, white chocolate and pretzels.

The last thing I would recommend doing this Halloween season to get in the spirit is to pick out some costumes that excite you. Dressing up is one of the best parts of the season, so find yourself an event to attend and put on your best costume! Some ideas would be to be a pirate, your favorite movie character, where’s waldo?, or a witch.

I hope this gave you some inspiration to get into the holiday spirit for Halloween! Have a fun and safe holiday.

Sincerely,

Emma
