While the regular season may be behind us, there are still opportunities to witness some Cougs on the ice this year.

For the first time since its official opening in December 2022, the newly renovated multi-million dollar Palouse Ice Rink in Moscow will be the host of WSU’s very own club hockey team as they face off against University of Idaho.

The two games this weekend will start at 9:15 p.m. on March 31 and April 1.

WSU won just two of their last five games last season, but that will not stop them from putting up a fight against the Vandals, who finished with seven straight losses. The teams did not meet during the regular season.

The last time the Cougars took the ice, their season ended in disappointment after falling 6-1 in the playoffs against University of Washington’s powerhouse team, who went on to play in the ACHA West Regional Tournament.

In past seasons, WSU’s “home” games have been held in Cheney at Eastern Washington’s facilities. From now on, some of their games will be played in Moscow as well, making it easier to showcase their skills to the fans.

“It will still be a mix between Cheney and Moscow due to the scheduling of the ice,” WSU goalie Kane Paxton said, “but hopefully mostly at Moscow.”

Along with being the team’s starting goalie, Paxton also serves as the team’s president and captain.

For any WSU students who are looking for something to do while their parents are in town for Family Weekend, why not go support the hockey team? Tickets will be available at the door and seats will be limited.
