UREC to host Family 6v6 Dodgeball tournament for Family Weekend
Tournament to take place 3-7 p.m. Saturday
March 29, 2023
University Recreation (UREC) Competitive Sports Department is hosting a 6v6 family dodgeball tournament. All are welcome to participate, with sign-ups closing tonight, Thursday at midnight. The tournament will be held Saturday at the student recreation center (SRC) on court four from 3–7 p.m.
From UREC’s rule book, A match consists of best-of-seven games. To win a game, you must have eliminated the entire team or whoever has the least amount of players in “jail” at the end of 10 minutes. Teams must have at least four members to participate in the tournament or will forfeit by default.
Oliver Werner, a graduate Assistant at UREC’s Competitive sports department who received a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, is putting together the event.
Dodgeball was his favorite sport the Competitive Sports Department offered when he was getting his bachelor’s degree.
Making teams of six allows larger families to do something athletic together.
“If two friends wanted to make a team for both their families,” Werner said.
Werner explained what strategies worked for his team in the past.
“Taller, slower people in the back and the shorter and faster people in front because they could dodge quicker and the taller people had a stronger throw,” he said.
But he wants all participants to remember to “Have fun!”
The event is free for all students (with family/guests having to pay an SRC Day Pass of $10). The winning team will receive Champion T-shirts and bragging rights.
