ASWSU detailed their goals for the current and incoming WSU students.
The president and vice president have been working over the summer to use their time in office efficiently, ASWSU said in a press release.
They have hired and confirmed the 2023–24 Executive Staff and the 2023–24 ASWSU Senate, excluding three positions.
They have also met with the Pullman Police Department’s Chief of Police about the university’s relationship with the city and public safety and with the WSU PD’s Chief of Police about campus safety.
They met with WSU Transportation Services to discuss transportation improvements.
They attended the Washington Student Association Spring General Assembly to vote on the 2023–24 legislative agenda. They also spoke with WSU’s governmental affairs team to discuss ASWSU’s federal lobbying efforts for the 2023–24 year, according to the press release.
Deschenes and Werndorf also welcomed new students to campus by speaking at all New Coug Orientation sessions.

Overall, ASWSU’s long-term goals for this year include, promoting more efficient and effective transportation options for students and collaborate with local authorities, their legislative team and the Director of Health and Safety to provide fentanyl testing strips to groups around campus to create a safer environment for students.
They also plan to support their Director of Legislative Affairs as a voice in Olympia. They also want to create a sustainability plan for the WSU campus.
ASWSU also plans to provide consistent opportunities, support and advocacy to all students on the WSU campus, according to the press release.
“ASWSU is beyond excited for the year to come, and for the opportunity to represent and serve students on campus,” they said in the press release.
