For the 10th time in her WSU career, Magda Jehlárová won a weekly conference award. Her most recent, and her second of this season, was a Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week Award for her performance against Oregon State and then-No. 6 Oregon.
Getting her 10th distinction puts Jehlárová in a league of her own, now being the conference’s all-time leader in weekly awards. Both of this year’s awards have been for the defensive side, making her have eight in her career, with her also grabbing Freshman of the Week and one Offensive Player of the Week during her time at WSU.
Winning this week’s award came from 3.14 kills per set, hitting .395%, and putting up 1.57 blocks per set against Oregon State and a top-ranked Oregon team. Earlier this season, head coach Jen Greeny said that her accomplishments come from her never-ending dedication to getting better.
“After winning AVCA National Freshman of the Year, she just didn’t stop and just kept working hard and getting better,” Greeny said.
On the season, Jehlárová ranks at the top of the Pac-12 and seventh in the nation in hitting percentage at .447%. It ranks 11th in the nation and first in the Pac-12 in blocks per set at 1.44. Already the WSU program leader in total blocks, she is also the current active leader in career blocks across the country.
Earlier this season, Jehlárová won a Defensive Player of the Week for her performance on the road against then-No. 18 Baylor and No. 6 Texas, putting up eight total blocks and two digs against Baylor and nine blocks and two digs against Texas.
Her improvement and consistency are felt across the team, as WSU recently accomplished its highest AVCA ranking in program history, ranking No. 4 nationally in Monday’s poll. They also ranked No. 4 in Volleyballmags Super 16 Media Poll and No. 5 in the NCAA’s RPI ranking.
Jehlárová and the Cougs get to prove their worth against Cal at 7 p.m. Friday and against No. 3 Stanford at noon Sunday, both matches will be played on the home Bohler Gym court.
