Cougs dominate in all facets

WSU took down Utah in a sweep Friday night, 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-12). The win was a necessary bounce back for a team fresh off a tough loss at the hands at the Pac-12 leading Stanford Cardinal. From the get-go, the vibes were full in Bohler with 2,700-plus strong and even an appearance from horror icon Michael Myers.

Early in the first set of the match, Iman Isanovic went down with an ankle injury, forcing Weronika Wojdyla to get into the match earlier than anyone expected. Wojdyla made an impact, right away getting several attacks in and ending her night with two kills.

As a team, the Cougs were far more aggressive at the service line. After barely tallying any service stats against Stanford Sunday, the Cougs had eight service aces and nine service errors against Utah. While service errors are never ideal, the more aggressive approach worked well for WSU.

More impressively, WSU hit .402% as a team, led by perfect 1.000% hitting from their setter Argentina Ung. Lana Radakovic and Magda Jehlárová also ended the match hitting above .400% and all-around, the Cougs had a great day with their attacks, spearheaded by a fantastic performance from Ung.

Not to be outdone by their attacking, the Coug net defense was just as elite. With seven blocks and limiting the Utes to hitting .141% as a team. Katy Ryan led the way with five blocks and Jehlárová continued her push for the Pac-12 record with four blocks of her own.

The Cougs win came in front of a strong crowd, but also some familiar faces. Several members of the 2018 volleyball team came back to watch the match and the dominance of the 2023 team, a sign that the Cougs always find their way back home.

It was a dominant win and fans and alumni alike saw a strong performance.
