After posting their worst offensive performance as a team of the 2023 season, the Cougs quickly turnaround as they take on Oregon State in a rematch of their win in late September, this time at home.
No. 6 WSU (18-4, 8-3 Pac-12) will host unranked Oregon State (8-13, 3-8) in their second matchup of the season. When they played in Corvallis, Oregon, the Cougs hit .284% en route to a sweep 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17). Since then, the Cougs have lost to Stanford, USC and Oregon, while the Beavers have only beaten Arizona, Arizona State and Washington.
Despite the Huskies’ usual home-court dominance, the Beavers entered Seattle and hit a jaw-dropped .316% to UW’s .111% in the fourth-set win. Oregon State held the Huskies to just seven points in the third set as they hit -0.121% and the Beavers dominated.
In the Cougs’ most recent match, they had the opposite result as Oregon State, looking lost offensively and hitting just .128% in a four-set loss to the top-10 ranked Oregon Ducks.
Iman Isanovic had the highest hitting percentage on the team, hitting .259%, with only two other Cougs hitting above .100%. While no one hit in the negatives, the three other players to tally an attack hit exactly .000%.
Coming into Sunday, WSU is 50-25 all-time against Oregon State and holds a 24-11 advantage at home in the series. Under head coach Jen Greeny, the Cougs are 15-8 against the program and have dominated recently.
Pia Timmer continues her quest of becoming the 15th member of the 1,000 career dig club at WSU, getting to just 79 digs shy of the mark in the team’s loss against Oregon. If she makes it to the mark before the end of the season, she will become just the third member of the 1,000 dig, 1,000 kill club at WSU.
Following the loss to Oregon, Magda Jehlárová is just 51 blocks shy of becoming the all-time Pac-12 leader and 46 blocks shy of becoming the NCAA leader in the rally era.
Jehlárová led WSU in their win against Oregon State in September, leading the team with 10 kills and hitting .643%, having just a singular error in the match. WSU will host Oregon State at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bohler Gym. The match will be live-streamed on the Pac-12 Network.
