Less than 24 hours after the first two players put their names into the transfer portal from the WSU volleyball team, a third player joined her teammates in the portal. Bend, Oregon, native Jasmine Martin put her name in with one season of eligibility remaining.
Martin, an outside hitter, played in a career-high 12 matches in 2023. She saw action in 23 total sets but remained locked in a battle for playing time at a deep middle blocker position.Â
After suffering an injury that limited her playing time in previous seasons, Martin played her most important action of the season early in the Pac-12 schedule, especially when the team traveled to her home state to take on Oregon State and Oregon.
Against the Beavers, Martin had five total blocks and six kills and against the Ducks, she had two total blocks. Without consistent playing time, Martin has not put up the most impressive stats but has learned behind one of the greats at the position in all of college volleyball. The recently graduated Magda Jehlárová.
Over parts of four seasons, Martin played in 71 total sets and finished her WSU career with 103 kills and 64 blocks, hitting .269% in the process. Prior to her season-ending knee injury in 2022, she averaged 1.57 kills per set and 1.3 blocks per set while hitting .367%, proving that if she can continue to build strength over the offseason and find playing time, she can be a more than serviceable addition to a team.
