After spending the past two seasons serving as a depth piece in the middle blocking room of the WSU volleyball team, Shea Rubight has announced the third and final destination of her college volleyball career. After spending time with Minnesota and WSU, the middle blocker will play her final season of eligibility with San Diego State, according to an X post from the team.
“We are excited to welcome Shea to the Aztec family,” SDSU head coach Brent Hilliard said. “After only spending a short time with her, we know she will be an amazing fit for our team. With her experience in the Big Ten and Pac-12, it will be nice to have someone with Shea’s level of play help lead this team.”
In her two seasons under Jen Greeny with the Cougs, Rubright played in 23 total sets and had 18 total blocks and 21 kills. Learning under Magda Jehlárová, she has four total seasons of top-level volleyball under her belt as she joins the Aztecs. At her first destination, she had played in 128 total sets during two seasons in Minnesota, tallying 107 blocks and 78 kills.
“Shea is an elite blocker who moves extremely well laterally. Combine this with the ability to score both in front and behind the setter, and we have someone who will be able to contribute at a high level in the Mountain West,” Hilliard said. “We can’t wait to see Shea on the court this spring”
A Yakima, Washington, native, Rubright became a two-time State Gatorade Player of the Year and proved her athletic ability as a multi-sport athlete in high school.
Entering San Diego State with one final year of eligibility, Rubright will be given the opportunity to get the most playing time of her collegiate career for a team that went 9-20 in 2023.
