WSU’s Visiting Authors series will be holding a Creative Writing Poetry Workshop on April 3.
Scholarly assistant professor Cameron McGill said he oversees the Visiting Authors Series and students interested in delving deeper into the world of creative writing can attend the one-credit workshop. Prospective participants are encouraged to reach out to their CAS Advisor to secure a spot in this workshop led by Gabrielle Calvocoressi, the most recent visiting author.
Calvocoressi hosted an event for the Visiting Author Series on April 2 at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Calvocoressi is best known for her works such as “The Last Time I Saw Amelia Earhart,” “Apocalyptic Swing” and “Rocket Fantastic,” which earned the prestigious Audre Lorde Award for Lesbian Poetry.
According to the Visiting Writers website, other past visiting authors have included Bojan Louis, Sarah Hennessey and Addie Tsai.
With a rich background in poetry and a multitude of accolades including a Stegner Fellowship and a Rona Jaffe Woman Writer’s Award, Calvocoressi’s contributions to the literary world are profound and impactful, McGill said.
In addition to Calvocoressi’s presence, the event will feature other notable literary figures such as Steven Dunn, a 2021 Whiting Award winner and author of “Potted Meat” and “water & power,” and Katie Jean Shinkle, author of five books of prose including “None of This Is an Invitation.”
“Their diverse perspectives and contributions to the literary landscape add depth and richness to this literary gathering,” McGill said.
The Visiting Authors series attendees can look forward to Q&A sessions with Kathleen Flenniken and poet Jericho Brown, the latter being a celebrated 2020 Pulitzer Prize Winner known for his powerful performances and profound poetry. Those interested in information and updates can visit the authors’ websites.
