The WSU track and field squad headed north Friday to the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane. The Cougs accounted for eight wins overall, maintaining their steady streak of success in the 2024 outdoor season.
Senior Jared McAlvey’s performance merited a spot on the national timetable, taking victory in the men’s 400-meter hurdles at 50.86. This time places him at No. 2 in the Pac-12 and No.13 in the NCAA. McAlvey’s result on Friday marks a second-best career time.
Notably, at the 2022 Whitworth Peace Meet, McAvley took first in the same event but with a time of 51.66.
Other on-track victories include Ethan Willems’ 21.49 second PR in the men’s 200-meter dash and Pietra Ornelas Da Silva’s 2.13.12 second PR in the women’s 800-meter run.
The Cougar field troop had a strong meet, with eight podium finishes.
