The WSU women’s volleyball team plays an NCAA second-round match against Dayton, Dec. 2, 2023, in Pullman, Wash.

WSU volleyball has finalized the final new players of the 2024 signing class with two transfers from the neighboring state of Idaho.

Taryn Vrieling, a junior outside hitter from University of Idaho, and Jade Warren, a grad transfer middle blocker from College of Idaho join the 2024 class as the fifth and sixth players of the summer session.

Of the six players, WSU has added three middle blockers, two outside hitters and one setter to the team, filling the holes left with the significant departures following the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Vrieling, originally from Kennewick, Washington, played the last two seasons with the Vandals and made the Big Sky All-Academic Team in 2022. In 126 sets over 39 appearances, Vrieling averaged 2.79 kills per set on .157% hitting.

Defensively, she had 25 total blocks over her two seasons, an average of 0.2 blocks per set.

Last season, she led the Vandals in kills with 219 and kills per set at 2.77. She also finished second on the team with 16 service aces, bringing her career total to 24.

Prior to her collegiate career, she played four seasons of varsity volleyball at Kamiakin High School, earning a First Team All-Conference selection in 2021, according to Idaho Athletics

Warren also comes from Idaho but played at the College of Idaho for five seasons. From Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, Warren played in a total of 341 sets over 104 matches. Over her long career, she had 662 career kills and 347 career blocks, with averages of 1.94 kills and 1.0 blocks per set, respectively.

Her best season had been the most recent, as she earned NAIA All-American honors along with being named First Team All-Region and First Team All-CCC. She finished the year with 124 and 256 kills, marks that would have ranked her second and fifth on the Cougs in 2023, respectively.

Both players have the opportunity to play significant minutes for a program searching for their ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and first postseason appearance under new head coach Korey Schroeder.
