Hello to the Palouse community,
My name is Gabrielle Bowman and I am the Managing Editor of the Daily Evergreen. I am very excited to be in this position this semester.
For the last two semesters, I was one of the co-news editors for the Evergreen, before that I was a reporter for news, sports and a little bit of life. So, I have done a little bit of everything. However, this experience is what I believe will help me as I step into the role of managing editor.
As this is my senior year I am excited to finish off strong. I was nervous to apply for the Evergreen my freshmen year, I walked up to the table during the college fair, froze then walked off.
I look back at myself and regret not having talked with the students representing and joining the Evergreen, while I did join my sophomore year the main reason I did not my first year was nerves.
If I can give any advice to freshmen reading this letter, whatever it is even if it seems too intimidating, go for it.
The reason I decided to study journalism was because I wanted to help people and give them the voices they need to make change happen. This is one of the goals I want to achieve while in this position.
As a news editor, I have already dealt with these topics, however, I want to be able to extend this beyond WSU and Pullman but onto the Palouse as well.
I recognize the Evergreen is one of the top ways students and their parents get information about what is going on here in Pullman and I want to ensure we will continue this coverage.
