Pullman Building Supply held its final community barbecue before going out of business Aug. 26.
“It’s going to be missed by the community,” said longtime customer Richard Perry. He praised the employees for being passionate and knowledgeable.
Hot dogs, burgers and chips were served in the front of the supply store while the community chatted in the parking lot. Many people and families were visiting the store, the turnout was high. The employees had a donation box for the Whitman County firefighters.
Owner Tyler Garrett blames state taxes and regulations for the location’s closure. Costs are lower at the Moscow location, he said.
Attendees at the barbecue were concerned about having to drive about 10 miles to the Moscow location. Moscow Building Supply may soon face competition with a Home Depot being built in the city.
Pullman Building Supply opened in 1996 and moved to its current location 10 years later. Garrett has strong relationships with the community and takes pride in his stance here.
The Pullman location will remain open until the end of November. The business is currently holding sales in-store. The store is set to close on Nov. 30. The Moscow location and online storefront are still available options.
