The Palouse Collegiate Tournament wrapped up on Sept. 11, and the WSU Cougars finished in fourth place, with a score of 24-under through three rounds.
The University of Utah Utes won the tournament at 52-under-par, while the University of Colorado came in second place and Oregon State University finished in third.
Individually, Sam Renner led the Cougars with a score of eight-under, good for twelfth place overall. He shot five-under in the final round, capping off a successful tournament for the junior. He sank six birdies and just a single bogey.
Redshirt sophomore Ben Borgida finished the tournament in 24th, with a score of five-under. He had a strong second round, in which he shot four-under, and after struggling early during round three, he locked down birdies on two of his final four holes to finish one-under on the day.
Three more Cougs finished in a tie for 25th place, with scores of four-under par. Senior Drayton Joseph, who entered the final round at par, strung together six birdies to finish four-under. Freshman Dylan Burcham also sat at par after two rounds and was two-under going into the final hole. On the par-five hole 18, Burcham capped his tournament with an eagle.
Senior Franklin Lydra, meanwhile, started strong, posting a score of four-under in the first round, but slowed down, with scores of two-under and two-over in the following two rounds, to also finish at four-under overall.
Grad student Jacob Chicoyne also finished one-under, giving the Cougars six golfers below par in their home tournament.
Freshman Garrett Harrison and Tate Bruggeman, competing in their first tournaments with WSU, finished two-over and four-over respectively.
Utah’s Sergio Jimenez won the tournament with a score of 21-under par. His teammate Gabriel Palacios was the runner-up, shooting 15-below par, one stroke ahead of Wyoming’s Kristof Panke who came in third place.
