The WSU men’s golf team took on the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, a ten-team tournament hosted by the University of British Columbia at Oviinbyrd Golf Club on Sept. 16-17.
The Cougars finished strong as a team, scoring four-over-par in the final round, helping them move from ninth place to seventh on the final day.
Individually, redshirt sophomore Ben Borgida put together the strongest performance for Wazzu, finishing in a tie for fifth place. He made up for a slow start, following a two-over performance in round one with a four-under round two and a six-under round three. That gave him a combined score of eight-under-par, a career-best for the Shoreline native.
Junior Sam Renner barely missed out on a top-25 spot, finishing in 27th place with a score of three-over. Renner secured ten birdies in the first two rounds, but only managed one in his final round, when he shot three-over.
In his second collegiate event, freshman Dylan Burcham finished six-over, in 32nd place. He managed three birdies in his final round and continues to impress early in his collegiate career.
Senior Drayton Joseph finished 18-over, after a six-over final round, and fellow senior Franklin Lydra finished at 27-over.
Michigan’s Hunter Thompson won the tournament with a score of 14-under-par, while Notre Dame won the tournament as a team, with a score of 17-under-par. Missouri and Michigan tied for second place at 12-under.
The Cougars will next travel to Wisconsin for the Badger Invitational on Sept. 29.
