Michigan is back in the playoff picture; The Big 12 played themselves out of at-large contention
*Seeds:
1 Georgia
2 Ohio State
3 Miami
4 Iowa State
5 Texas
6 Ole Miss
7 Alabama
8 Tennessee
9 Oregon
10 Penn State
11 Michigan
12 UNLV
*Seeds are not what the teams are ranked. Miami and Iowa State are not ranked third and fourth in the country. They are the three and four seed due to the top four highest-ranked conference champions being top four seeds and receiving byes. The fifth highest-ranked conference champion gets a spot in the playoff. UNLV is not ranked 12th in the country.
Missouri and Indiana are my first teams out. Indiana has a favorable Big Ten schedule, so if they can capitalize on the winnable games, they should be 10-2. If Missouri can get out of their own way, they are undeniable for a spot. This is the best the SEC has been, holding five of the top six spots in the rankings.
Michigan moves back into the last spot for now because of the possibility of Jack Tuttle coming off an injury starting at quarterback. If the Wolverines can find a rhythm with Tuttle, they will find their way into the playoff.
Iowa State holds the Big 12 automatic qualifying spot over Utah. It was a tough decision, but with the subpar quarterback play, the struggle to finish the game against Oklahoma State, and Cam Rising’s injury to his throwing hand, Utah still has not impressed and Iowa State has a bigger statement in their win against Iowa. On top of Oklahoma State and Kansas State not even looking like conference title contenders, Iowa State is the best remaining team in the conference.
