Washington State University’s Alumni Association will host a lineup of events for Homecoming weekend, including the Homecoming Pep Rally and the Crimson and Gray Gathering.
Today they are doing Scoop for Support and will be giving out ice cream scoops at 1 p.m. in the CUB Spine. On Friday they are holding Roses & Notes, where they give out notes with motivational quotes on them at 1 p.m. on Terrell Mall.
According to Kelly Branter, director of marketing and membership for the Alumni Association, the pep rally will be held at 5 p.m., Friday at the Lewis Alumni Centre. It is in partnership with ASWSU, Greek Life and Residence Life, she said.
This year one of the alumni association’s goals was to partner up with students a lot more, Tania Henriques, ASWSU President said.
“That’s why they reached out to us and asked if Brian and I wanted to be the emcees,” she said.
This week is also Mental Health Awareness Week and ASWSU is holding events.
“I know it doesn’t really relate to homecoming, but anyone can stop by,” she said. “Seeing our alumni here and raising awareness for mental health.”
According to the Alumni Association website, the pep rally will be complete with fan interaction, local celebrities, a student DJ Xean Tanala, local food vendors, and a beer garden.
Student-athletes will also be there to get people excited.
They are going to have more special guests than they have had in the past. Jack Thompson, legendary WSU and NFL quarterback, is going to be there. Kirk Schulz and Anne McCoy are also coming, Katey Koehn, WSUAA board president, said.
Another goal of the WSUAA is to keep the old-standing traditions alive for alumni.
“After a cougar football win, you come to the Alumni Association, you ring the victory bell, which I didn’t even learn about until the last couple of years, but it is a really fun thing to do,” Koehn said.
For the rally, ASWSU is asking participants to make a shelf-stable item or make a donation to the Cougar Pantry.
The Homecoming Crimson and Gray Gathering will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday also at the Alumni Center.
People at this event can interact with the Alumni Center engagement team and learn about the 52 chapters nationwide.
There will also be a DJ, button making, spin the wheel, treats and a photo booth.
