The WSU Women’s golf team has finished the fall portion of their season with a sixth-place landing at the Boulder Creek Invitational.
Individually, senior Madelyn Gamble finished tied for 14th overall. Gamble came into day three tied for eight, with a score of five-under par. She tallied three birdies in the final round, but those were offset by a few bogeys, which led her to finish the day even. Her final combined score of five-under kept her in the top 15, and was her best finish of the season.
Senior Sarah Skovgaard Bils shot two-under in round three, giving her a final score of two-under par for the tournament. She finished in 25th, for her third top-25 finish of the season.
For freshman Grace Rubelsky, a one-over final round helped her secure her best finish of the season. She placed 35th, with a total score of one-over-par.
Alice Johansson finished the tournament even, good for 31st overall. The 74th-ranked golfer in the country did not play as well as she had when she won back-to-back tournaments in September, but the sophomore still did enough to say competitive.
Junior Sara Pineros finished in 52nd, with a score of four over par.
The Cougs wound up in sixth place, dropping two spots on the final day, but still ranking among the top third of the 17-team field. Their team score of eight below par was only one back of the top five.
San Francisco ran away with the team win, scoring 41-under-par and beating second-place Northern Arizona by fourteen strokes. Northern Arizona had an impressive final round themselves, coming back from sixth place to finish in second with a 21-under final round score.
The Cougars will now get a much-needed winter break. They’ll continue to practice in Pullman and other nearby courses in Washington and Idaho, but will not have another competitive tournament until 2025 rolls around.
