Game with the biggest impact: Miami at Louisville and Nebraska at Indiana
Miami gave up 45 points and 448 total yards against Louisville. The level of competition the Hurricanes have played is poor, on top of giving up 117 points in the last three games against said competition. Miami is not playing at a championship or even playoff level and they are lucky they are in the ACC, or else they would not be in the top ten or maybe even top 25.
Indiana beating the Cornhuskers by 49 shows they are a playoff team, and they have a few more games to prove that they belong. If it wasn’t for preseason expectations, they would be ranked in the top eight right now.
Newcomers: Vanderbilt and Navy
Navy continues to look phenomenal. Blake Horvath should be in the Heisman conversation if he isn’t already. The reason Vanderbilt is in at 25 is because of their wins against Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and Alabama. Washington State is one of the first teams out. The Mountain West level of competition is the reason they are not ranked. Their SOS is significantly worse than when they were in the Pac-12. They also don’t get UNLV, which would boost their SOS. The Cougars getting into the rankings will depend solely on what teams in front of them do if Washington State keeps winning.
